Treatment of folliculitis decalvans with isotretinoin
Folliculitis decalvans (FD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of scalp. It is characterized by pustulosis in the initial stage of the disease, confined to hair follicles. These hair follicles are destroyed in the process of evolution, which leads to uneven alopecia often located at the edge zone of hair growth as a "crown". The treatment of FD is a difficult task as the classic therapy which includes antibiotics and immunomodulatory drugs has temporary result. According to our observations the average duration of remission is from 2 to 6 months after complex therapy. Currently there are singular publications about successful therapy of f olliculitis decalvans with the help of tacrolimus ointment, infliximab, neodymium: yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd:YAG), p hotodynamic therapy and etc. However, publications data do not contain information about late fate.
