DURATION AND RECURRENCE OF ROSACEA IN THE PRESENCE OF DEMODEX MITES

Introduction: Rosacea is one of the most common in dermatological practice. According to the literature, rosacea occurs from 2 to 10% of the population. One of the most frequently detected agents in rosacea is Demodex mites. Until now, the exact role of Demodex mites in the formation of the inflammatory process in rosacea has not been established.

Introduction: Rosacea is one of the most common in dermatological practice. According to the literature, rosacea occurs from 2 to 10% of the population. One of the most frequently detected agents in rosacea is Demodex mites. Until now, the exact role of Demodex mites in the formation of the inflammatory process in rosacea has not been established.

Objectives: Establish a relationship between the duration of the course and the recurrence of rosacea and Demodex mites.

Materials and methods: Under observation were 120 patients diagnosed with rosacea, divided into two groups (60 people each). The first group included patients with rosacea with the presence of Demodex mites, in the second group - with absence.

Results: Between the duration of rosacea course in patients of I and II group there are statistically significant differences (p≤0,05). In the second group, the course of rosacea was recorded up to five years (40% and 13.3%), while in the first group more prolonged cases of rosacea prevailed, over five years (36.7%) compared with the second group (10 %). Comparing the frequency of relapses of rosacea disease between patients of I and II groups, a statistically significant difference was found (p≤0,05). In patients with no mites of the Demodex mites, in most cases, the disease recurred only once.

Conclusion: The Demodex mites complicate the course of rosacea, contributing to lengthening the duration of the disease and increasing the number of relapses.
